How to Use / Application Tips
-
Use on pre-lightened hair. If the hair is still too orange or yellow, you may need further lightening or bleaching first.
-
Apply evenly, either in a bowl with a brush or using an applicator bottle.
-
Leave on for up to about 10 minutes (or less, depending on desired tone and how light the hair already is).
-
Rinse out thoroughly, and condition as toner can dry hair slightly (even though it has conditioning ingredients).
Things to Consider / Precautions
-
Since it’s rapid, leaving it too long can result in over-toning (too cool/bluish, purple, etc.). Start checking a bit early.
-
If hair is unevenly lightened, tone may appear patchy—ensure even lifting beforehand.
-
Use a color-safe shampoo & conditioner afterward to maintain tone.
-
Because it’s ammonia-free and sheer, it won’t lighten hair further—it’s for color correction or enhancement, not lifting.
-
You must mix the toner with Paul Mitchell Processing Liquid or a 10-volume (3%) developer.
-
Mixing ratio: Typically 1:1, meaning 1 part toner + 1 part developer.
-
The low-volume developer ensures the toner deposits color without lifting the hair further.
Why You Need It:
-
Without a developer, the toner won’t activate or process properly.
-
The developer helps open the hair cuticle slightly, allowing the toner pigments to deposit and tone the hair.
